Programme
Day 1: Burgundy: Vineyards of the Côte de Beaune
Morning Lynne and David of Burgundy Discovery will collect you for your wine tour. We provide you with a
personalized information and tasting pack and start the day with an
explanation about the complex nature of Burgundy wines - its geography, classifications, appellation system and grape varieties.
Our introduction to wine tasting covers sights, smells and tastes and continues at our first wine grower.
We will visit three small, family owned growers in the Côte de Beaune and taste around 15 wines from the bottle and, where possible, barrel. We taste red and white regional Bourgogne, Village and Premier Cru wines across a range of vintages. We visit the cellars and meet the growers and we can translate your questions if your French is a touch rusty.
We drive you through the beautiful Burgundy villages and vineyards, taking a close look at the vines to appreciate better the terroir and aspect.
Included is a typical three course Burgundy style lunch, with wine on both days.
Day 2: Burgundy: Vineyards of the Côte de Nuits
The second day continues with three tastings at very
different family-owned Domaines will include the opportunity to sample
Premier Cru and rare Grand Cru wines as we drive up to
the Côte de Nuits, following the “
Routes des Grand Crus”. During our visits we will see the
complete wine-making process, we explain the
differences between red and white wine making, the
maturing process and how
the weather affects the wine each year. Our winegrowers will explain their vineyard tasks and, of course, the special nuances and differences in each wine vintage.
Day 3: Morning Departure
We will provide you with suitable route directions whether you plan to drive or take the TGV train to Chambéry (Savoy)
Day 4: Savoy: Vineyards and mountains of the Chartreuse Natural Regional Park and the Epine range
Pick-up and welcome from your
host Bernard Vissoud of Alpes Flaveurs. Bernard speaks excellent English and
has a Higher Studies diploma in wine growing and Oenology. Bernard’s enthusiasm and knowledge for this historic and legendary region will rub off on you.
We discover
the vineyards of Abymes & Apremont, a mythical area at
the bottom of the Mount Granier in the Chartreuse Natural Regional Park. After we visit
the famous little church of Myans, a place of pilgrimage since the Black Virgin‘s miracle in 1248. Our first wine–tasting session of local appellations takes place in the vineyard or in the wine grower’s cellar.
Lunch is taken at an Inn with typical, flavoured local dishes. Crossing the mountains of Chartreuse by the impressive Granier pass after lunch we reach
the famous vineyard of Jongieux close to the biggest natural lake in France,
Lac du Bourget. Behind the Epine range the little road winds across some very pretty and typical winegrowers villages before overlooking the Lac du Bourget and the famous
Haute Combe Abbey. We finish the day
wine-tasting with a superb view over the lake.
Day 5: Savoy: Vineyards and mountains of the Massif des Bauges Natural Regional Park
We drive to the
Chignin vineyards and the famous
rare Bergeron wine for our first wine tasting session of the day.
Our lunch will be in a typical little mountain restaurant. We cross the
Massif des Bauges Natural Regional Park via
the Frêne pass at 960 m altitude and follow the
vineyards to Freterive for our final wine-tasting at
Domaine Grisard established over 170 years ago,
who produce numerous and sumptuous rare wines for ageing.
In 2008, Philippe and Jean Pierre Grisard my friends and partners have been elected “one of the best fifteen wine growers of France” by the prestigious wine guide Bettane and Desseauve
Bernard VISSOUD, a wine-specialist and mountain guide who was born in Savoy offers to take you on a pleasurable tour of the history, beauty and delights of this region
